Wood and beer...
Well, I got another special request from an old friend. This time, to make him a couple of beer tap handles! I've thought of doing this before, but my kegerator has been out of commission for about two years (it's also a fridge, so it has food in it now), so I was glad to accept this challenge. I decided to tackle the more difficult of the two tap handles first. I met my friend when we both attended The University of Virginia, so it was no surprise that he wanted a UVa the

Why did it take so long to get one of these?
Seriously? It's "Flying WoodShop". Flying. The shop has been open for quite a while and I'm just now getting my first plane to sell? We were on our way home from church this week and I looked over at the little flea market that sets up at the gas station on the corner as we drove by at 60 mph. I know where they set up the tools and all I could see were three little hand planes sticking up off of the table. The boys were hungry and we'd already made one stop before heading

More stuff. More fun.
I'm adding a couple of new items to the store this week. It's nice to give folks different choices, but it's also nice to have a bunch of different projects to work on and not just the same stuff all the time. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy all of the projects that I work on, but a bit of variety is nice too. Check out all of my products here. I've been wanting to make some wall crosses for a while, so I figured this was the perfect time. The crosses are pretty simple, it's

Lots of projects this week!
It's been a very busy week. I won't get too into it, but here's a quick overview of the projects I've been working on in the shop. First off, my apprentices are fixing all kinds of things around the house. Here you see them fixing the door to the basement. No surprise here. I'm working on a flag for an old friend from college. This is now finished and just awaiting assembly. The same friend also ordered a helmet stand for his father that is already done. This is the one

Another take on the helmet display stand.
I delivered a helmet stand to an old ROTC friend a couple of weeks ago. Since then, I've received two additional requests for helmet stands...both from other UVa ROTC pals! I'm working on version 2.0 of the helmet stand. I still stand by the high quality of the first one delivered, but availability of materials can cause some slight adjustments to the plan. The first stand was made with 6/4 poplar. I went back to my hardwood dealer and there was no 6/4 poplar available. T
