Custom tap handle extravaganza!
Ok. Perhaps not a full-blown extravaganza, but I've been doing quite a few custom beer tap handles lately. The most recent is a 747-400 inspired handle for a member of The Pilot Network. This tap handle was a lot of fun to carve. The customer provided a turn radius diagram from the flight manual and let me have at it. The customer also asked to have Boeing and 747-400F carved down the sides. It was a two-day carve and I'm quite pleased with the results. There are several

No room at the Inn...
I'm working on a great and fun project to kick off this Advent season! We had a wedding gift Nativity set along with some additional Amazon-bought figures. The set had small a Stable that lasted a couple of years, but it was succumbing to the unintentional abuse that young boys tend to dole out. The figures are still in great shape (I highly recommend the Fontanini figures -- they're kid proof!) so, I'm building a new Stable! One nice thing about this project is that I don

Tapping, tapping at my chamber door...
It’s been a beer-tap handle making kind of week. In addition to the popular Roundel beer tap handles that I’ve been making, I had a couple of special requests this week. One TPN member has a good friend who is a former Marine who owns a beer bar. He wanted to get a special and unique gift for his friend for Christmas. Sounds like it’s right up my alley! Like the second handle that I made this week, I was given design responsibility as well. I like when that happens. My c

The business of business.
I just got into the business of business. I made my first business card holder and it came out pretty sweet (if I do say so my own self). This one has the roundel carved into the face of it. That was pretty tricky. Let me explain... The business card holder you see is made of three pieces of maple. I was going to try to carve it out of a single piece, but I would have basically had to carve out a thin slot (mortise) from a large piece of wood and then cut the wood around

Custom beer tap handles!
Do you have a kegerator? Does it have some little black plastic handles that came with the tap? I think I may have the solution: custom beer tap handles! Here's the military aircraft roundel handle that I recently carved out of poplar. If you'd like one just like it, they're available here. I've been approached by a couple of folks lately about carving more detailed designs than the American flags that I make. One of the more daunting things to carve is something that's e

Now a member of The Pilot Network team!
I'm proud to be a new sponsor for The Pilot Network (TPN). I've been a TPN forum member for several years and when I started my business, I knew that I wanted to provide a service to this group of [usually] professional pilots. I'd like to thank Matt and Adam for taking me on as a sponsor. As a retired USAF C-130E pilot and T-1A IP, my goal is to provide heirloom quality handmade aviation wall art direct to your door at a reasonable price. I'm open to suggestions, so if the
