Why I go to the gym...

Seriously, why would ANYONE go to the gym and lift heavy things if not to get better at lifting heavy things?

I have a lot of heavy things in my workshop and I don't want to have to lift them every time I need to move them. Therefore, I purchased mobile bases for all of the really heavy stuff so I can move them around more easily. Putting a mobile base on a 7-foot tall, top-heavy bandsaw is not easy, but it basically involves rocking and leaning the bandsaw to get the base underneath it until you can secure it. The shaper was EASY. It's not too heavy and it's not too tippy. I did that one first and learned how the bases work. Yep, smooth move, Fred.

The jointer, now that it has been unpacked and I haven't put all of the heavy attachments on it yet, weighs in at about 800 lbs. I'm not lifting that by any stretch of my imagination no matter how many kettlebell swings I can do. In comes the crane that I built. This was the first time I'd used it inside on a smooth flat floor. As it turns out, not only will this thing lift your heavy item, it'll let you pretty easily move it around too!

There's not much to tell, really. I lifted the jointer up, lowered it onto the mobile base. Realized that the mobile base doesn't give me good access to the dust collection ports, lifted it up again, inserted wooden spacer blocks, and there it sits.
